LISA R. VAN ACKEREN, ESQ.
Chief Executive Officer, President and General Counsel
Mrs. Van Ackeren has been in the insurance industry since 1995. She began her insurance career by developing proactive loss prevention and loss control programs that reduced risk of workplace injury and illness. She developed and coordinated health and safety training programs for employees, supervisors and managers. Mrs. Van Ackeren was responsible for providing resources and technical assistance to enable employers to comply with applicable state and federal health and safety regulations. Mrs. Van Ackeren assisted in identifying the risk factors that contribute to losses and the strategies and resources needed to eliminate or control these risk factors.
Mrs. Van Ackeren spent an additional 8 years responsible for the strategic management of employee benefits offered to small and large group plan sponsors. She has worked for several national insurance companies in 3 major markets in Texas (Austin, San Antonio and the Dallas/Fort Worth).
Mrs. Van Ackeren has experience in health care delivery as well as the Chief Financial Officer of a chain of injury and rehabilitation clinics in North Texas.
As a licensed Texas attorney her legal experience includes advising employers and brokers on legal issues relating to health and benefit plans, legislation and regulatory compliance, insurance contracts and corporate matters. Mrs. Van Ackeren also spent time as a civil litigator handling a broad range of litigation matters including title work, real estate litigation, construction defect litigation, commercial litigation, debt collection, deceptive trade practices and trade secret litigation.
Prior to starting Personalized Prevention, Mrs. Van Ackeren spent time in the creation and management of alternative risk financing mechanisms including Risk Retention Groups and Captive Insurance programs as a Captive Manager. This became the impetus for creating Personalized Prevention, a Risk Management company designed to identify and reduce risk in self-funded group insurance programs.
Mrs. Van Ackeren, won the prestigious Rising Star Award in March, 2011. This award is given by the National Association of Women Business Owners to honor outstanding San Antonio area women business owners who demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism and effective leadership, who are considered visionaries and pioneers of innovation in their chosen fields, who are active in the community, who deliver exceptional customer service, who are advocates for women in business, and who are model employers.
Mrs. Van Ackeren is an alumnus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and Texas Wesleyan School of Law in Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Van Ackeren is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
DANIEL L. VAN ACKEREN, JR, DC, MBA
Founder/Chief Development Officer
Dr. Van Ackeren has extensive experience in senior leadership of wellness and disease management companies. Prior to starting Personalized Prevention, Dr. Van Ackeren was the Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer of a nationally recognized Wellness Company and was the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for a managed care company specializing in Disease Management and Wellness in Michigan. Dr. Van Ackeren has over 14 years of health care, consulting, and business development experience with extensive knowledge in mergers and acquisitions. He has developed relationships with third party administrators, health plans, employer groups and insurance professionals across the country.
Dr. Van Ackeren has also worked in a variety of capacities in the delivery of health care. He was the founder and CEO of a chain of injury and rehabilitation clinics in North Texas purchasing failing Chiropractic clinics and making them profitable ventures. He established and built a prestigious outpatient surgical rehabilitation center in a competitive medical district. He revitalized a struggling start-up operation in the employee wellness industry and was responsible for the development and management of their national proprietary network of wellness health coaches. Dr. Van Ackeren also served as Vice President of Business Development/Investor Relations for a biotechnology and life sciences Company in Texas. Dr. Van Ackeren sold product lines for stem cell research and raised capital for a biotechnology and biopharmaceutical company. Dr. Van Ackeren also spent time working and developing Department of Defense life sciences contracts.
Dr. Van Ackeren received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology through Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree through Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree through Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas. Dr. Van Ackeren has been published in both scientific and business publications and was recognized as an innovative entrepreneur by the Ft. Worth, Texas media. During his time in Michigan, Dan also served as a board member of the Michigan Association of Health Plans.
KATHY CORDER
Chief Marketing Officer
Kathy holds her degree in Corporate Health and Fitness from Texas Tech University. Prior to joining Van Ackeren Associates, Kathy has spent over 20 years in the health promotion field in a variety of settings. During her career, she has developed employee wellness programs for large hospital system, and HMO, a private cardiology practice, and has owned her own consulting business. She held a position as a visiting instructor at Texas Tech University. She has been an innovator in developing and implementing corporate wellness initiatives that have achieved real results. Her work has been recognized by WELCOA, a national wellness organization, in receiving a Well Workplace Award, signifying achievement and quality in workplace wellness. She has served on the professional advisory board for Wellsource. She is a graduate of WellCoaches training. She is the author of Accelerate Your Health wellness challenge, which has been used by companies across the country. Kathy has great passion for engaging employees, and has traveled to over 11 states speaking and training on a variety of wellness and health topics.
LINDSAY GRAAP, CPA
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Graap holds degrees in both Accounting and Information Systems from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa along with a Masters of Professional Accounting from The University of Texas, Austin. She has obtained her CPA from the state of Texas and is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs. Prior to joining Personalized Prevention, Ms. Graap worked as an auditor for a large accounting firm performing audits and risk management services for Fortune 500 companies. She has extensive experience managing teams and providing financial solutions for clients.
Ms. Graap has also worked in the insurance field providing accounting and support functions. She also has experience as a personal trainer and coach for a variety of age groups for over six years.
TROY PERKINS
Chief Information Officer
Mr. Perkins oversees technologies research and development (R&D) activities, I.T. infrastructure and formulating long-term visions and strategies. Prior to joining Personalized Prevention, Mr. Perkins founded TOTUS Agency, a leading web marketing, e-commerce and web application development company. Prior to TOTUS, Mr. Perkins served as a Data Security Consultant with Capital Group American Funds where he consulted on the analysis of regulatory compliance, layered security infrastructure, implementation and deployment, NIPS/HIPS, centralizing logging infrastructure and SEM/SIM provisioning. Mr. Perkins has authored company security standards, policies, guidelines, system/network hardening procedures and security posture assessments protecting approximately $800 billion in managed assets.
In previous roles Mr. Perkins served S1 Corporation (NASDAQ: SONE), a leading global provider of enterprise software solutions to more than 4,000 banks, credit unions and insurance providers, as the Information Security Manager of the SPA/IRT Division. In this role he designed a Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) solution, specialized in providing information security services and consulted with small and medium sized financial institutions. Mr. Perkins has also served as a Senior Software Engineer for Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO), the world-wide leader in networking, where he worked on intrusion detection systems for the internet. Prior to his experience with Wheelgroup and Cisco, Mr. Perkins managed two different ISP’s in the mid-90’s.
Mr. Perkins’ work has received the following accolades: “Best of Show” for his work on CSIDS (formally Netranger: Networld+Interop) ; “Best in Class” for CSS (formally Netsonar: InfoWorld); Senior Security Product Test Engineer for WheelGroup Corporation (network IDS start-up acquired by Cisco Systems for $125 million) Packet™ Magazine Archives (Second Quarter 1998); today, many of these technologies are used in Cisco’s firewalls, routers and switches.
Mr. Perkins holds a BBA MIS (Management Information Systems) Degree under Dr. Leon Price from the University of Oklahoma and several Data Security and Cisco Networking Certifications. Thesis/Directed Reading author of “Internet Commerce and its Impact on Data Security” 1994.
